1. Increase Ghrelin. Ghrelin hormone is secreted mostly in the stomach, and it signals your brain to look for food. One night you didn't sleep increases Ghrelin by 15%. 2. Decreases Leptin. Leptin is a "satisfaction" hormone released by fat cells in the body. Leptin level tells the brain it has enough fat in the storage and doesn't need more. If you don't sleep for one night, Leptin levels drop by over 18%. 3. Increase Cortisol. This is a stress response hormone and affects fat burning and Melatonin (the hormone responsible for making us fall asleep). 4. Decreases Insulin sensitivity. This means ability to consume blood glucose which is in turn converted into fat. 5. Decreases testosterone, an anabolic hormone responsible for muscle growth. Decreased testosterone means an increase in the body's tendency to store fat. 6. Inhibits Thyroid functions. The Thyroid is the control panel of our body metabolism. It decides how much calories we would be burning. Sometimes, a good night's sleep is all the body requires to repair itself. Hopefully, this was long enough to make you fall asleep 🥴😁
